Final project

My name is Bruce Hochstetler and I have enjoyed t taking Photoshop and I have learned a lot. My favorite part of the course was learning the pen tool mainly because I heard that if you’re good with the pen tool you could be more valuable. On my final project I decided to create a space station and I focused on creating a hangar with the bay doors open so I could put in a space background.
I started by making copies of my original pictures and then I made five layer masks so I could mask out parts I didn’t want and I also gave each one some layer styles. I was going for a concept art type of art. The layer styles I used was outer and inner glow, drop shadow, color overlay, bevel and emboss, stroke, gradient and pattern overlay. I also decided to blend some colors together on the walls, ceiling, platform, and the rest of the room. I created a shadow for the battleship that I created. I used some adjustment layers like levels, vibrance, color balance, brightness and contrast, Hue and saturation. I also made some custom Brushes by selecting objects I wanted and the clicking on define Brush presets in the edit menu. I also made a couple of selections and made some color channels.
This project was challenging until I had a clear idea of what I wanted to create and then it was just a matter of putting pieces together to create something extraordinary. I actually had fun with the project.

creating Grayscale for final Project

The first thing i did was look on the internet for some good images of space stations. I found some images on wikimedia commons. I found a room that looked useable and i made some layers and put the floor, ceiling, and walls on seperate layers. I also found a cool image of space that i could use and i had a hard time finding a space ship to use so i decided to make my own by finding a battleship and making a copy of it and i did some erasing and i created my own space craft.I then made some selections and created some grayscales of the space station.

Putting images together and using grayscale

First thing i did was i wrote down various ideas about what i wanted to put together. I decided i would go for a perspective view, so i went around Chicago taking pictures of various buildings and Structures. I went to China town and took some pictures of A bridge and a few buildings. I also went to Navy pier and took some pictures there, but i decided not to use them. I also went up North to the Montrose beach and i took some pictures of the beach and Lake michigan. I also took a few pictures of streets and roads. I ended up on the west side so i decided to take some pictures of buildings in that area.
I made a huge mistake when i was taking the pictures, i didn't take in account the horizon point of each of the pictures that i took. I didn't realize the mistake until monday and by that time my camera was already turned in to the cage and i didn't have time to take new pictures. I guess as long as i know what mistake i made and how to prevent it from happening again, that would have to be good enough.
I also put in a grayscale and i made each object a different color of gray, at least a person can tell the objects apart from each other.

Man on Cliff

I selected the light part of the sky and i used the levels adjustment to make the sky a little darker. I also selected part of the background and used the levels to make it a little darker so it would actually blend in with the sky. I also used the levels to make the cliff and man darker so it looked like it is a part of the picture. I then selected part of the cliff and made a copy of it and i covered part of the man's legs with it. I then selected part of the background and i made a copy of it and covered the rest of the man with it. I also had to bring the brightness down a bit so it would blend in with its surroundings.

. I first used the Blob Brush to trace around my face so i could sketch the outline of my features. I also Traced around my glasses, Nose, and Mouth. I also noticed that my shirt had a tear in it so i decided to trace around it.
I, then clicked on my Draw Layer and i used the pen tool to trace around my face, glasses, mouth, and my School Badge.

Outlining a cartoon Character

First thing i did was i drew a cartoon of a man and then i scanned him in to the computer and i put the drawing in Illustrater. I used the Pen tool to make my outline. I used a 4 point stroke on the main outline and i used a 2 point stroke for lines that were closer together. When i was finished i copied and saved it as a smart object in Photoshop.

Blending Homework II

The first thing i did was to create the grid so that it looked like the origional. I made a copy of the grid and i moved it over so it looked like it had a 3 D effect. I also used the ruler so i could get as close as the origional. I decided to work on the push pin first and i selected the pushpin and i used the eye dropper to get the right color. I used a hard brush first and i went about half way and i chose a different color for the bottom. I then used a softer brush and i moved the opacity down a lttle to try to blend the colors together.
I went to the grid and i turned the side grid off and i concentrated ion the front view. I used the eyedropper to get my colors and then i used a soft brush and a low pacity to blend my colors. I then turned the side grid on and started working on it. I selected one square at a time and i would blend the colors together and then i would move to the next square.

Blending colors and creating brush presets

The blending project i used the eye dropper tool to get the right color and then i would hold down shift so i would draw a straight line. When i was done with the colors, i would go back to the colors and i would play around with the Opacity so i could try to make the colors look as though they were running in to each other.
The apple project i copied and pasted the apple on the left in the front center of the two apples. I then used the eyedropper tool to get the right color from the apple on the right and i basically played around with the Opacity until the colors looked like they were running in to each other.

I went to the internet to look at some images that i could use as a brush. I decided to go with holiday style brushes since it is that time of year. I made a brush, and brush preset of santa and his sleigh, Pumpkin, Turkey, Stockings, and my name. I first imported the image to photoshop and then i select the image using the magic wand tool. I then clicked on edit and the define brush preset and then i went to my brush pallette and clicked on save brushes and i did that to all 5 brushes. I also created 5 brush prest by playing with the shape dynamics and the other features that the brushes come with.

Color Correction

I took a picture of people crossing a street and i thought i would make the area and the people's clothes look a little brighter. First thing i did was the brightness and contrast and i brought the level down a bit. I also used the levels and i played around with the controls for a little bit until i found something that i liked. I also used the curves to make the red coat, bag, and taxi a little redder.I used Hue and saturation to bring out the colors.I also used color balance since i was mostly worried about having a brighter photo. I finally gave it a photo filter to make it look like it was actually taken during a colder part of the season.

Using Alpha Channel and Quickmask.

The first image i chose was an Elephant and i used quickmask to select the image and i also used the eraser a few times to erase the brush that was on the inside of the Elephant. I clicked on the channel button and created an alpha channel and then i saved it as a Targa. The next image i chose was a gorilla and i would have to say that was a poor choice because when i zoomed up on it i noticed a lot of fine hairs around the edge. I used a small brush and went very slow so i could get as much of the hairs as i could. I basically used the same format as the Elephant. I used Quickmask and i went to channel and created an alpha channel. Then i saved it as a Targa.

Text Based Flyer

First thing i decided to do was to give my Flyer a different background color, so i chose dark blue. Then I decided to give my text an ISOCT font and i made the font size 72 pt. On the name Bruce i chose to give it a drop shadow, outer glow, Bevel and Emboss. With the last name "Hochstetler" i kept the font and the font size thesame because i didn't want to change it too much. I gave the last name an outer glow, inner glow, and a pattern overlay. I also gave my first name a red blend if and my last name a green blend if.

Color correction 1

I decided to work on the rooster first, I used my polygon Lasso tool to select the shaded areas and then i copied and pasted the shadow on a different layer. I then used brightness and contrast and i brought the brightness down a little bit so it wouldn't look so dark. I copied and pasted the rooster on a different layer and i used Hue and saturation to bring out the color a little bit. I decided to work on the Quingua and i selected the sky and brought the brightness down a bit and i selected the trees and grass and i just used brightness and contrast and Hue and Saturation to make the image a little darker and crispier looking. I worked on the Peach and i just brought the brightness of the peach down a bit and i used hue and saturation to bring out the color. I also used brightness and contrast and Hue and Saturation on the leaves to give it more of a greener crispier look. On the currency i selected some money that looked like they were the same color and i just played with the brightness and contrast, levels, and Hue and saturation to make the Curreny look not as bright and faded.

Selection Challenge

The Buffalo,mail,mail-1,and mail-2 i used the magic wand tool to select my image. I then copy and pasted my selction on a new layer and i gave it a new background color. The hair 1 and hair 2 selection was more of a challenge. I used the magic wand tool and i used the "tolerance" button to select my image. I also had to use the "refine" button to feather my image and i also used the radious button to try to get as much of my image as i could. I ended up using the quick selection tool to go in between the hair. I t took a while, but i tried to get as much of the background as i could. This project ended up being very tedious, but i stuck with it and tried to make the images look as good as i could.
